UP to Launch Southern California Terminal

UP reported that it will initially offer a “pop-up” terminal at its West Colton rail yard, and that domestic intermodal service will launch between Southern California and Chicago, with expected future service to Dallas, Tex., and the southeast markets.

New Name for Pioneer

The company reported May 5 that the change not only reflects growth and modernization, but also long-term vision. “The acquisition of railroads and other assets and associated industrial development is a primary focus of Pioneer Lines as it seeks to expand its presence across the U.S.,” said Pioneer, which currently owns and operates 15 railroads and provides such rail-related services as transloading, switching and storage.
