Colorado-based short line rail operator and logistics provider OmniTRAX was hit by a recent ransomware attack and data theft that targeted its corporate parent, Broe Group. OmniTRAX confirmed to FreightWaves that the cyberattack had occurred after the Conti ransomware gang posted stolen data from a leak site.

NS' Squires Talks Atlanta Move, PSR and Economic Recovery

Norfolk Southern Corp. officials expect to make the company's historic move to a new Atlanta headquarters in September, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer James Squires said earlier this week. In a "fireside chat" held Tuesday with members of the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC), Squires said construction of the new campus is well underway.

Robert Primus has been sworn in as the newest member of the Surface Transportation Board (STB). A Democratic congressional staffer from New Jersey, Primus' nomination to the STB was confirmed Nov. 18, 2020, board officials said in a press release.

Loram Purchases Rail Services Division of Montana Hydraulics

Montana Hydraulics’ railroad division provided qualified technicians to perform field services for ballast cars, hydraulic dump cars, and air dump cars as well as repair, maintain, and manufacture maintenance of way equipment. The purchase also included Montana Hydraulics’ bi-directional ballast plows, Grizzly side dump conversions, and Bobcat tarp systems.

US Manufacturing Gauge Expands at Fastest Pace Since 2018

A measure of U.S. manufacturing expanded in December at the fastest pace in more than two years, bolstered by a pickup in new orders and the strongest growth in production since 2011. A gauge of factory activity unexpectedly increased to 60.7 from 57.5 a month earlier, according to Institute for Supply Management data released Jan. 5.
