U.S. renewable energy consumption in 2019 surpassed coal for the first time in 135 years, according to the federal Energy Information Administration (EIA). Total renewable energy consumption in the United States grew for the fourth year in a row to a record-high 11.5 quadrillion British thermal units in 2019. Coal consumption, meanwhile, dropped for the sixth straight year and totaled 11.3 quadrillion Btus, according to the EIA analysis.

Sires Reintroduces Bill to Notify Lawmakers of Rail Safety Assessments

Albio Sires has reintroduced the Rail Audit Transparency Act, a bill that would require the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to notify Congress when a comprehensive safety assessment is being conducted on an intercity passenger- or commuter-rail agency in lawmakers' districts. The bill calls for members of Congress and relevant congressional committees to be notified within 10 days of an FRA launch of a safety assessment.

Vale Rail Concessions Extended

The amendments to both contracts, which extend the concessions from their previous expiry date of 2027 to 2057, were agreed by the Vale board on December 16, and follow their approval by the Federal Audit Court in July 2020. The revised contracts were formally signed on December 18 in São Paulo, by Mr Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, minister of infrastructure, as well as representatives from Vale, the National Land Transport Agency and the Brazilian treasury.

One Step Closer to Multimodal Route Turkey-Ukraine-Polands

Turkey has been part of the multimodal transport route for a longer time, being part of the Middle Corridor. So far, cargo was mostly carried into Europe via the Baku-Tblisi-Kars railway line.
