Congress Passes Massive Bill, Including COVID Relief for Amtrak, Short-Line Tax Credit

Congress last night passed a $2.3 trillion legislative package that includes $1.4 trillion to fund the government and $900 billion in coronavirus emergency relief aid. The bill provides $14 billion in pandemic emergency funding for public transit and $1 billion for Amtrak, according to the American Public Transportation Association.

Mexico to Use China-Built Light Rail Car for First Time

Mexico on Tuesday received the first wagon of its first China-built light rail car as part of an effort to upgrade the country's urban light rail transportation system. The first wagon was delivered to Monterrey, capital of north Mexico's Nuevo Leon state, and placed on the maintenance tracks with the help of specialized cranes, the local government said in a statement.

Patriot Rail Appoints Nelson to Succeed Whiteman as CFO

Patriot Rail Co. LLC and Patriot Port Holdings LLC announced today that Matt Nelson, vice president of accounting and finance, will become chief financial officer effective Jan. 1, 2021. Nelson will succeed CFO Jennifer Whiteman, who is leaving the company at year's end to spend more time with family and pursue personal interests, Patriot officials said in a press release.

CREATE Project Wraps Up, Reduces Delays for Metra, CP Trains

Canadian Pacific, Metra and Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency Program (CREATE) partners announced this week the completion of a project that will help reduce delays to freight- and commuter-rail trains in Franklin Park, Illinois. The CREATE B1 Project involved the installation of five crossovers and associated signaling on Metra tracks serving the Milwaukee District West Line and CP, principally between grade crossings at Scott and Ruby streets.
