Green Plains Sells Texas Plant for $39 Million

Omaha-based Green Plains Inc., continues its divestment from the ethanol industry, announcing on Tuesday it has sold its 100-million-gallon plant in Hereford, Texas, to Hereford Ethanol Partners, L.P. According to a news release from the company the plant sold for $39 million.

The North American railroad industry is about 190 years old. According to the railroad industry, there were over 1,620,000 railcars in North America at the beginning of 2020.

Cathcart Rail Acquires Appalachian Railcar Services

ARS was sold from parent company GenNx360 Capital Partners, a private equity firm investing in middle-market business services and industrial companies. ARS provides certified tank car and freight car repair in 10 locations, from Maryland to Nebraska; interior and exterior cleaning, coating, and lining services; mobile repair; on-site customer repair operations; switching operations; and railcar storage.

CN, Others to Develop Plastics Resins Export Facility in Alabama

Canadian railway CN has partnered with others to develop a high-tech logistics near the Port of Mobile in Alabama for the export of plastics resins or pellets. CN, Mississippi Export Railroad subsidiary Alabama Export Railroad and Ray-Mont Logistics expect the first phase of the logistics park in Mobile to be open in late 2021.

Port Congestion, Delays Disrupting J.B. Hunt’s Intermodal Network

Container restrictions from the railroads due to high levels of congestion at the ports are causing disruption to service for intermodal providers like J.B. Hunt Transport Services. The company earlier this week issued a service advisory extending through Saturday as its partners BNSF Railway and Norfolk Southern unwind the glut of boxes and trailers backed up in the key intermodal markets of Los Angeles and Chicago.

Progress Rail to Close Tacoma, Wash., Locomotive Facility

Progress Rail will close its Tacoma locomotive rebuilding facility early in 2021. In a statement issued this morning, the company said it will move the work currently being performed at Tacoma to other rebuild facilities, including Mayfield, Ky., and Patterson, Ga.
