Mexican Crude, Freight Rail Delayed by Protests in 2020

Railroad lines in Mexico have been blocked by protesters during more than one-third of the year so far, delaying shipments of crude and metals crossing to and from the US, Kansas City Southern de Mexico president Oscar Del Cueto said today.
 

Mexico Energy Regulators Said to Endorse AMLO Directive Favoring Pemex, CFE

Energy regulatory officials in Mexico reportedly agreed on Tuesday to follow a directive from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to align regulations and permitting with his goal of strengthening state-owned oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and power company Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
 

RSI Issues New Tank Car Component Standards

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) today released the RSI-100 Product Quality Certification Standard for tank car components. The new "recommended practice" will enable suppliers to produce tank car components that conform with Association of American Railroads (AAR)-approved specifications and applicable federal regulations, RSI said.
 

Week 38: Intermodal Saves the Day—Sort Of

Intermodal gains mostly offset carload declines for U.S. and North American freight rail traffic for the week ending Sept. 19, 2020, reducing the weekly decline to less than 2%, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported on Sept. 23. Traffic for the year's first 38 weeks was still down significantly compared to 2019, however.
 

California to Ban Sale of New Gas-Powered Cars in 2035 Under Newsom Order

California will ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars to combat climate change starting in 2035, a move that could help reshape the nation's automobile market and its output of greenhouse gases. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Wednesday mandating that all new passenger vehicles sold in California in 15 years be zero-emission.
 

Hi-Crush Inc. Announces Successful Confirmation of Plan of Reorganization

Hi-Crush Inc., a fully-integrated provider of proppant logistics solutions, today announced that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas has confirmed its Prearranged Plan of Reorganization. Under the terms of the Prearranged Plan, which was approved at a hearing yesterday afternoon, the Company eliminates approximately $450 million of unsecured debt, reduces annual interest expense by more than $43 million, and equitizes certain material general unsecured claims against the Company.

Kazakhstan–Germany Multimodal Freight Service Launched

United Transport and Logistics Company – Eurasian Railway Alliance (UTLC ERA) and Belarusian Railways (BC) subsidiary Belintertrans-Germany (BIT-Germany) have launched a new multi-modal service from Altynkol, on the Kazakhstan-China border, via Kaliningrad, Russia, to Hamburg, Germany.
