Hurricane Laura Hammers Union Pacific Tracks Near Lake Charles

Hurricane Laura delivered "heavy damage" to the Union Pacific mainline and industrial tracks in the Lake Charles, Louisiana area, resulting in both being taken out of service, the railroad said Thursday. The hurricane made landfall as a Category 4 storm, with winds of up to 150 mph, moving across Louisiana before weakening to a tropical storm.
 

RJ Corman Acquires Three Short Lines

RJ Corman Railroad Group has finalised an agreement to acquire three short lines and a transloading company from Steve May, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The three railways carry more than 14,000 wagonloads a year, interchanging with Norfolk Southern and the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad. Traffic includes sand, drill cuttings, scrap, feed products, fertiliser, pipes, plastic, propane, chemicals and wood products.
 

CN's Investments in Ontario on Track to Reach Over $1 Billion by the End of 2022

CN is pleased to announce that it has awarded a contract to build 1,150 new generation, high-capacity, grain hopper cars to National Steel Car Ltd. of Hamilton, ON, bringing to $1 billion the amount CN plans to invest in Ontario by the end of 2022. In addition to its purchase of 1,150 rail cars, as well as CN's ongoing annual capital investments, CN has also pledged to invest more than $250 million in the construction of the proposed Milton Logistics Hub, an essential transportation infrastructure project that is critical to the economic future of consumers in Ontario and Canada.
 

Progress Continues on Construction of CSX Intermodal Terminals

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed back construction timelines, Eastern U.S. railroad CSX is forging ahead with the construction of two new intermodal terminals, one in Rocky Mount in eastern North Carolina and the other in North Baltimore in northwest Ohio. CSX expects to complete construction of both the North Carolina project, known as the Carolina Connector or CCX, and the northwest Ohio project in early 2021.
 

Beyah Named UP Chief Communications Officer

Clarissa Beyah has been named Union Pacific's Chief Communications Officer. She will be responsible for driving the railroad's corporate communications strategy, overseeing executive and employee communications, media relations, digital and social media, and serving as the communication's adviser to UP's chairman and senior leadership team.

Wagons to Support CFL Multimodal Network Expansion

CFL Multimodal subsidiary CFL Intermodal has expanded its fleet with an order for 50 Tatravagónka T3000 double pocket wagons for transporting semi-trailers. The wagons are equipped with tracking sensors to enable the operator's customers to be provided with real-time location data.
